Water Works

This week, heartbeat is delivered with a reminder to drink up.

With a growing interest in climate change, we invite you to consider water conservation as one of our most vital sources of energy. In spite of all the amount that has fallen from the skies these past few weeks, water is one of our non-renewable resources. Do you leave the water running while you're brushing your teeth? Washing your face? Washing the dishes? Think about it.

One of the easiest ways to maintain health, weight and body balance is to drink plenty of water. We're advised to drink at least 8 glasses every day. Though recent studies have concluded that caffeine does not, in fact, affect water absorption, alcoholic beverages do. Our individual requirement varies by body weight and daily activity. If your pee is dark in color and you're not urinating 4-5 times every day, you're not drinking enough water. Take this online quiz to find out how much you need today.

We've noticed that drinking bottled water has become fashionable, mostly for convenience and concerns about tap water safety. There is no evidence to suggest that bottled water is any safer than tap water. Impurities can be added by old building pipes, so run the tap for a minute and use a simple water filter like Brita if you prefer. Drinking distilled water on a regular daily basis, very common in Hong Kong, can actually be harmful to your health ... read more.

A few issues back, we suggested refilling plastic water bottles as an act of conscious conservation. Check the bottom of any bottle and look for a number inside a triangle. Re-use only those bottles with a number 1 rating. Click here for more.

Bathing, washing, drinking and brushing our teeth - if you are reading this email, then chances are you take water for granted. Even though it's available on tap or at the dispenser down the hall, many of us still don't drink enough to keep our cells healthy and functioning well.

Take a bit of time to think about what you're drinking and how much your drinking and let your body be your guide. Then take another minute to find out how you can contribute to a community that doesn't have enough.

How does water work for you ?

Organic Vegetables - delivered to your door

Fresh. Healthy. Weekly deliveries of your favourites.

Organic Express Unlimited provides Hong Kong residents with certified* organic produce fresh from the farm to directly your homes. Organic farmers grow their crops by respecting the value of natural soil and working in balance with the ecosystem. Organic farming avoids unnecessary use of harmful agrochemicals like pesticides and synthetic fertilisers. Instead, organisms such as earthworms and other micro-organisms are allowed to flourish, contributing to the fertility of the soil. The farmland therefore stays biologically balanced and sustainable. And the food that ends up on your table is perfectly natural and free of harmful substances.
