Feng Shui Principles

Feng Shui is about energies.

Use your creativity and allow the power of Feng Shui to surprise you with some positive results.

Feng Shui means ‘Wind-Water’ and traditionally symbolizes the space between heaven and earth – the environment where we live. The underlying philosophy recognizes that humans and their environment are sustained by an invisible, yet tangible energy called’ Chi’. This may move like wind to activate opportunities, but when frustrated by obstacles it can eddy like water to become trapped and stagnant.
Therefore Feng Shui is about aligning yourself to the right energy or Chi and maximizing potential, which is available to you by the environment in which you live. Often Feng Shui calls for merely taking the right actions and making the right decisions in a given time frame, after all Feng Shui is all about time and its cycles. Feng Shui principles may be applied geographically or more superficially to placement, design and decoration. Recommendations to achieve harmony come from light, sound, life, movement, stability, electricity, symbolism, and color; each and all as required are appropriate. Every aspect of home, life, career, and relationships are open to enhancement to facilitate the holistic development of the individual, their family or business by enhancing the immediate environment. As with most things it is the intention in which we apply that will determine the result, and with some insight into our surroundings we can hope for the best positive result. Therefore it is necessary to demystify Feng Shui and Chinese astrology and take steps towards understanding that it is a respectable art.

It is not simply about moving your furniture and knocking down walls.

Is Feng Shui based on any religion?

The answer is no. Symbolic Feng Shui, as we refer to it, is the placement of various articles within our homes to enhance or diffuse certain types of universal energy. These items are based on the Five Elemental theory and have a logical approach and application. Some symbolic items can be observed within temples, but that does not mean you have to be a practicing Buddhist to enjoy and receive the benefits of Feng Shui or be seen as going against any religion you choose to practice, for example the beautiful symbol of the Yin/Yang can be seen on many items in this day and age and holds the essence of the Universe for everyone. This symbol is all about balance which is the main objective with the application of Feng Shui. The Yin/Yang can certainly be found on many temples, similarly it may be found on foods, beauty products, clothing, martial art schools, web-sites even, to name but a few.

Maintaining an open mind allows us to access so many choices and opportunities that may be restricted to us should we limit our interpretations by the in doctrine of our forefathers? Ultimately the choice is of the individual, but should we choose to observe the culture in which we live and open ourselves up to the wonderful energy of Feng Shui and all it represents we can develop an understanding and respect for all that the Universe has available to us.

In Feng Shui it is difficult to get everything correct, but as long as you are able to implement about 70% of good Feng Shui, you should be reasonably assured of enjoying good fortune.

The theory to our destiny is what is called The Trinity of Life.

There are two other major considerations, which are our Directions and Locations.

DIRECTION : The direction your main door faces, or the direction your head rests whilst sleeping together with the main luck giving direction.

LOCATION : A specific sector of the home corresponding to a specific direction.

Introduction to the Five Elements

As far back as the 4th century the Chinese introduced the five elemental theory.

Our Earth as we know it is made up of the five elements -- FIRE, EARTH, METAL, WOOD and WATER. These elements have and hold an amazing force over us, sometimes in very subtle ways and at other times quite noticeably. Like most things in life, we have to acquire balance to make a situation work well.

There are two cycles in which the elements work.

HARMONY

DISHARMONY

The first cycle is called the productive cycle or the Cycle of Birth and when it is in place the five elements are considered to be in harmony.

The second cycle - the Cycle of Destruction - brings about what is considered to be a hostile environment in which each element controls or destroys the other. When this destructive cycle is in place the five elements are considered to be in a state of disharmony.

The five elements can be energizing as well as hostile, depending on their interactions with one another. To obtain a balance within our lives, we benefit from experiencing both the positive and negative. The negative things that happen teach us how not to do things while the positive encourage us to preserve our efforts. The positive cycle usually requires a dedication and a certain amount of effort to maintain while the negative is much easier to acquire and maintain. These two cycles are found within our human relationships as well as in nature. Remember that all things at all times are alive and interact.

The rhythms of change in each of the seasons, the tides and the cycles of life are resonating, enforcing and canceling all of nature’s creations thereby producing for us some expected and some unexpected delights. When we understand these two cycles we will then have the ability to choose a time, a place and a season in which to create and produce our most positive actions and outcomes.

The Pillars of Destiny – BaZi

When we are born we are represented by 8 Chinese characters, two from each of the year, month, day and hour of our birth. These make up our personal 4 Pillars or Elemental Basket and each Pillar influences an aspect of our lives. In turn, each of the 4 Pillars comes under the influence of the 5 Elements which can be either favorable or unfavorable to our personal welfare.

Striking the right balance through the journey of life can be easy. Knowing the elements that affect us during the various phases of our journey allows action to be taken to make this as comfortable and as productive for us as possible.

We study BaZi - Destiny Analysis in order for us to make informed decisions at specific times of our life, thus enabling us to develop as fully aware human beings and reach our full potential. Joey Yap.

Striking the right balance through the journey of life is not easy. Knowing the elements that affect us during the various phases of our journey allows action to be taken to make this as comfortable and as productive for us as possible.

Destiny Analysis Charts are available.

Your Personal Elements

FBaZi or Phat Chee - literally translated means 8 Characters

When we are born we are represented our own and unique Elemental Basket. These elements come in the form of 8 Chinese characters each holding one of the five elements. These 8 characters are divided into Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches and each hold a Yin or Yang Factor. These 8 characters are given to us from our birth data.

We obtain 2 elements from the year, month, day & hour. This is our BaZi.

The theory to our destiny is what we call The Trinity of Life which is believed to consist of :

  • 40% Destiny

  • 35% Earthluck (Fung Shui)

  • 25% Man's Luck (Virtues, Good deeds, Knowledge, etc.)

The Cosmic Trinity

BAZI is a study of Heaven Luck.

Our destiny is made up of fate & luck.

Heaven Luck (TIAN) is determined by our day of birth and as far as our BAZI study is concerned we have no real input on our parents – siblings and place of birth, this is Heavens Will. It is considered that although our destiny cannot be altered, we do have the ability to make informed choices based on which cycle we are governed by at various stages of our life’s path. Therefore, we can determine the outcomes of certain events to be as positive as possible within our destiny.

We have the choice to walk our own path.

MAN LUCK (REN)

Man luck plays an active part in the way in which we conduct ourselves, through our behavior towards others, our personal drive and enthusiasm, education and virtues. Man Luck is very important when it comes to exploiting the positive cycles and/or evading negative cycles.

EARTH LUCK (DI)

This is derived from where we live. Taking note of our locations and directions and time factors which all have some influence over us. Feng Shui is the art of harnessing Earth luck and by understanding the effects of CHI/QI can reduce the negative and improve the positive aspects of our lives.

Bazi is a complex study of how we are represented by the Five Elemental theory, how we are all made up these elements, what we have too much or too little of will form the productive and disruptive periods of our lives.Striking the right balance through the journey of life is not easy. Knowing the elements that affect us during the various phases of our journey allows action to be taken to make this as comfortable and as productive for us as possible. These elements can be either favorable or unfavorable to us, which means that we have to strike the right balance in order to establish a comfortable journey through life…this is the difficult part.

One would think that having a lot of one particular element would make us strong in actual fact this can result in the reverse effect making us excessively weak. This doesn’t mean you are a weak person, it just means that this particular element is weakened, i.e. exhausted. We hope by correcting our elemental balance we may learn to handle in a more productive manner, life’s ups and downs.

In order to accomplish and achieve a healthy elemental Balance within our life, we first have to analyze our 4 pillars to establish what we are made up of elementally. We then have to discover what we have too much of and find an appropriate element to counteract this. At the same time we have to discover what we are lacking and again try to find element or elements that will support us.

Clutter – Feng Shui's Number 1 Enemy

Clutter creates stagnation

Clutter leads to tired energy – it’s tough to feel inspired and creative, so if this sounds like your office – consider a spring clean or renovation.

  • Keep your desk clear, allowing the flow of energy – keep files off the floor

  • Watch for in the ‘in tray’ piling up – the higher the stack the more overwhelmed

  • Plan for 10 minutes of each morning or in the day to clear newspapers, old paperwork etc.

  • Beware of hidden storage – when tidying your desk be careful not to shove things into filing cabinets and drawers

  • Plants bring vital energy and they counter negative effects of too much equipment - but not spiky ones.

The cost of a Feng Shui Audit will soon have paid off when the energy flow improves the improved business.
