Question : Blood-sugar Monitor

I have a diabetic friend who has heard that there is a blood-sugar monitoring gizmo that doesn't require puncturing the skin available in HK. You run it over your arm and it is able to monitor your blood-sugar non-invasively. Apparently it was invented in China and has still not received FDA approval in USA or Europe.

Would you know where to find such a thing?

Best regards,
Martin

Question : Natural obstetricians/gynaecologists

Do you know any obstetricians/gynaecologists that use homeopathy or any other natural method besides the general western medicine approach? I am 7 months pregnant and having a little problem with my current doctor. She was fine when I had my first baby. I had all my trust and appreciation on her... However, as I discover more about the natural way of life, such as homeopathy and naturopathy, I found that her approach was no longer the way i feel completely comfortable... I looked at your directory, but cannot find any obstetrician/gynaecologist. I'd appreciate it if you could let me know anybody that you can recommend in your circle.

Question : Tai Chi in Central

I visited Graeme Stuart Bradshaw and he suggested to contact you to get details on places to do Tai Chi in Central. I am a complete beginner and totally not athletic. I tried to find a place to do yoga first, but Yoga Central told me that most places in Central do Power Yoga, something I am completely not interested in. I want to do a soft and relaxing kind of yoga. If you have any suggestions on this, they are also welcome.

Regards,
Tonia

I have purchased spelt flour from GREAT in Pacific Place and spelt pasta from Green Concepts Health Shop 2/F, Prosperous Commercial Building,
54 - 58 Jardine's Bazaar, Causeway Bay Tel : 2882-4848. I believe Olivers also carries some spelt products. These are just a few of the places off the top of my head. I have seen spelt all over the place.

Question : cancer therapy

My uncle was diagnosed with some kind of nasal cancer and we would like to find him some alternative/holistic treatment (naturopathic, homeopathic or Chinese medicine etc) in Hong Kong. I am living in San Francisco and hoping to find him a Cantonese-speaking practitioner as he doesn't speak English.

Question : wheatgrass & udo's oil

I was wondering whether you knew where in HK I could buy the following : 1. Wheatgrass seeds for growing wheatgrass; 2. Udos Oil (contains omega 3 and omega 6 oils.)

Thanks,
Kam

Replies

We carry wheatgrass seeds for growing wheatgrass. The seeds were organically grown in the US. We do not carry Udos Oil but we have the Barlean's Lignan Omega Twin (Flax & Borage Oil Supplement) in capsule form which supplies complete essential fatty acid nutrition with the Omega's 3,6 and 9 and GLA. We are selling $320 per bottle for 120 capsules. I hope that the above information would be useful to you. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have further enquiry. Thank you very much. Question : middle ear troubles

I have been some trouble in my middle ear and I was told that I have to take an operation as soon as possible. The doctor told me that is the only way. But I really don't want to do that in many reasons. So now I am looking for other possibility like Chinese herbal medicine, Aromatherapy, Reiki healing, etc. which is natural way to heal your body.

1. Get a second opinion - Try Professor William Wei (ENT surgeon) at Queen Mary TEL 2855 4616

2. Get a third opinion - Try Dr. Alexander Choi (ENT specialist) at 1107 Melbourne Plaza, Central TEL 2869 1178

3. Sound treatment - An effective natural way that I know of for treating middle ear problems is through sound. The expert in this area is a French doctor called Dr Tomatis who has spent all his life focusing on the Ear. If you go to www.tomatis.com and www.soundtherapyinternational.com, you can find all the information on how and why it works. In a nutshell, it involves listening to certain sounds with certain frequencies filtered out for a few hours a day over a long period of time. The middle ear is not just made of bone, there are also muscles in there which can lose their elasticity over time or due to an infection etc. By listening to certain kinds of sound, at a very low volume, the muscles start to exercise and balance is restored to the middle ear. Obviously, there's a lot more to it than that and it depends on the problem with the ear but this method has been and still is highly effective with dealng with a huge range of problems. It's definitely worth looking into.

Good Luck!
