Support

This week's heartbeat is delivered with
trust that I will get the support I need.

[Originally posted on 30 October 2003}

There's nothing quite like spending 7 days
flat on my back to reflect on where I'm at.

2 short years ago I launched what later became
heartbeat when published my first email newsletter.

4 short years ago, I discovered during back surgery
that there are complications with my spinal nerve.

In the absence of pain, I have slipped into old
habits of long hours without breaks at my computer.

I'd love to say this is the cause of the jammed
vertebrae that are giving me the current problems.

A more honest answer is that I have been suppressing
fears and anxieties and unwilling to risk rejection.

These fears cover the full range of business, personal, social
and, until last week, I was able to convince myself I was free.

This week I'm looking a little deeper and trusting a few
close friends to share my struggles release some old beliefs.

Trying out new behavior is a little like getting exercise
after a long period of laziness - it's bound to hurt a bit.

Lessons learned have to be put into practise before
they can be fully integrated into being who I really am.

I am grateful for the support I have been receiving
and the rewards of being willing to risk vulnerability.

Who do you turn to for support?

Naturally,
