Voice

This week's heartbeat is delivered with a reminder
of the effects that fear can have on our daily lives.

[Originally posted on 3 July 03}

Only a few months ago, Hong Kong grabbed the attention
of the world media with a story fueled by disinformation.

In the vacuum created by no information or little information,
fear grew and turned into a media frenzy of monstrous proportions.

The resulting devastation could have been prevented by
freely distributing the few details available at the time.

We are now looking at creating a situation where we could easily
be inviting a replay of the story, this time by direct regulation.

Consider, for a moment, the impact of the story of the
unnamed virus in the environment of the unnamed article.

We've still got the world's attention and those few people who
gathered on Tuesday decided to take advantage of our good fortune.

How are you using your voice?
